Workday Project Realignment Phase

As shared earlier this year, Ohio State has been preparing to implement Workday as the new financial management system for the university. During this time, an assessment has been underway to also evaluate Workday as a solution for human resources and student system functions.
We now have an update about that assessment and what it means going forward.
The university has determined that Workday’s Human Capital Management (HCM) and Student system functionality would indeed serve the university well. Our project sponsors, Provost Bruce McPheron and CFO Geoff Chatas, have asked the project team to evaluate what it would take to expand our original Financials focused project to also include Human Resources and Student systems.
To be clear, the final decision on whether to transition to Workday enterprise won’t be made until after we complete the evaluation of what realignment would look like, so we must simultaneously continue our momentum on the Financials Project.
The project team has initiated a planning phase to evaluate how Ohio State could realign from a Financials-only project to an enterprise solution. We are leveraging the existing project structures and plan on completing the Realignment Phase by the end of January.
Key objectives of Realignment Phase include:
- Develop a project governance structure for a Workday enterprise implementation
- Develop the scope of the implementation
- Develop an implementation schedule
- Develop a project budget
- Develop an enterprise agreement with Workday and our implementation partners
If these key objectives are met and align with our executive sponsors’ strategic vision, we will move forward with a Workday enterprise implementation. In that case, we will also conduct a new project kickoff in February, that will explain in detail the new scope, current status and implementation schedule.
